According to my own tastes.. i'd say Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series.. but maybe if you haven't seen it yet Full Metal Alchemist (2003) is maybe your best option.

Brotherhood isn't bad don't get me wrong.. but the OG animation series is the best.
