you've probably seen lain but check out the PSX game from the same time if you haven't. laingame.net has web remake that's pretty good and an included simplified version. just figured i'd add it cuz it's closer to an anime/visual novel than an actual game.

Death note , Monster , Serial experiments lain , Erased . I know people already mentioned those But I highly agree ! Also I would add Parasyte ,Evengelion ,Mirai nikki !

I would suggest anything made by Urasawa (Monster is quite popular and Pluto also has an excellent anime)
