I'm relatively new to this side of the internet, I know I am incredibly unknowing of how to keep myself safe and protected on the internet (in comparison to the smart people here on this site ) and so I thought I'd ask what you guys use to protect yourself.

• What browser is preferred?
  
• What VPN is preferred if you use one?
  
• And additional protections such as anti-viruses
  

And while I'm ahead, what cost effective external hard drives exist out there, cost effective as in size per dollar. Thank you.
