Diphenhydramine and doxylamine are the closest legal OTC pills to help you fall asleep to a sedating agent. They're both actually class of first-gen antihistamine. The thing about them is that they're actually an excellent anticholinergic, which blocks acetylcholine, which means that if you take them at higher dose than the recommended dose, you're gonna get high lol definitely not a recommendation, just saying...

I used to take benedryl, easy to get being an OTC antihistamine which makes you super drowsy. I think I once read it used to actually be prescribed as a sleeping aid, but don't take my word for that.
