Stupid and weak people are more likely to become believers. It is easier for them to live in a world based on fictitious rules, especially if these rules can justify their actions.
On the other hand, if someone was born into a family with overly religious parents, they may have a limited worldview based on false ideas. Religiosity and lack of education will not make such a person smarter.

Religious people always seem to be narrow-minded.

Priests are preaching peace and kindness while members of the church face allegations of sexual abuse again and again (and again).

I think it can help some people to live better lives and be nicer to each other, but it can cloud a persons better judgement as well
