Hi all,

I realize IRC is largely a thing of the past, but I missed the initial wave and have been obsessed with the concept ever since Mr. Robot. Anyone know which servers and channels are most active these days? I'm especially interested in communities centered around infosec, pentesting, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Appreciate the info comrade. Not sure why, but something about the old school feel of irc makes me feel cool

Jk it looks like DNMirc might be dead now :/ looks like a user on dread (simplejohnny) has attempted to create a replacement though.

The address is pcicic6bkckq277evaartgesrhzmkgyeftlf4alnzkamw6lt2klu3fyd.onion.
You can connect to it from a irc client like hexchat.
The port number is 6667.

Haven't given it a try yet, but could be a start.

funnily you say IRC is a thing of the past but some see it as the thing of the future. Sometimes we take saltated steps towards technological advancement only to realize that we can be exploited and abused through it. That's when society usually takes a step back to simplicity. It's like picking to live on a farm after being degraded as a human being in the city for a long time. Less amenities but you start finding joy in simplicity. I participate in many closed channels but the more open to the public something is the more scrapers there are. Like in SB here

Couldn't agree more honestly. The analogy of choosing to live on a farm instead of in the city is spot on. Today's Today's society places way too much trust in corporations to maintain their anonymity (e.g., Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp), knowing there are laws on the books mandating the companies to grant the government a backdoor (not to mention probably selling their data).

I've actually thought about potentially starting a DNMircV2 server of sorts and making it invite-only to hopefully get a solid base of users who are very active. The whole concept of IRC and its community is fascinating to me. If you're willing to share, are there any closed channels you would recommend?
