I have trained one to be on my level and it's scary. If he got pissed , one bite and I'm fucked. We're on good terms though. But he's matched my strength and exceeded it.

You might lose an arm but I feel like a decent build man can take a pit on. Let the pit latch on your arm so it cant bite anywhere else critical. You can use your other arm to go for the eyes/balls and maybe even try choke it out. This guy was able to choke one out but the dog was distracted biting someone else.
