With the proliferation of deepfakes and disinformation, some are claiming that we have entered into a post-truth era. This is an era where one never knows if what they are encountering is authentic or computer generated. 

So far, deepfake technologies have not produced generated material that is not distinguishable. There are always some errors that make it possible to identify, particularly if there is any movement involved. But as discrimination continues, the technologies are improving and it is believed that at some point the deepfakes will be so good that a human will not be able to tell that it is not authentic. 

If technology can be developed to create deepfakes, can technology be developed that will be able to discriminate authentic from generated content on a consistently reliable basis?

yea we're fucked. Everyone someone is making very small changes to model that make deepfakes better and better. Technology never changes in one day but slowly everyday. If we gave someone in 2016 ChatGPT, they would think AI would be the end of the world.

It's only going to get better and yes, we are fucked but at the same time not. Since Social Media platforms would make something like a integrity and publisher for signing each and every text or video made with AI.
