I get "User replied to your thread" alerts, but also a lot of "PM received" alerts. And those "pms" are just replies as well.

Those are not PMs. Whats up with that? Angry

No you misunderstand, a PM is a private message. Someone responding to me on a thread is NOT a private message.
I would expect an alert, but not a PM
