It would be nice to have an option the user control panel to disable the shoutbox entirely. Every time I visit the main page, I have to minimize the shoutbox again.

Yes, that's the "minimize" feature I referred to in my first post. But every time I go back to the main page, the shoutbox is no longer minimized. I see a cookie called "collapsed" get set to the value "mshout" in my browser, but it doesn't seem to help.
