"talking about those in the USA" ........... they can't do a damn thing about Russia or China, even a few other moron countries. So, how do you lock them up ? China just hacked the US Treasury. What are they going to do about that ?
Going after stupid kids over phone numbers is just bull-shit they can find in Public Records. Unless there was some personal data in it, its just phones. I can get your number without hacking a damn thing. Even unlisted numbers & cells. No hacking required for me. lol !

Quote:Federal authorities have arrested and indicted a 20-year-old U.S. Army soldier on suspicion of being Kiberphant0m, a cybercriminal who has been selling and leaking sensitive customer call records stolen earlier this year from AT&T and Verizon. As first reported by KrebsOnSecurity last month, the accused is a communications specialist who was recently stationed in South Korea.

Cameron John Wagenius was arrested near the Army base in Fort Hood, Texas on Dec. 20, after being indicted on two criminal counts of unlawful transfer of confidential phone records.

The sparse, two-page indictment (PDF) doesn’t reference specific victims or hacking activity, nor does it include any personal details about the accused. But a conversation with Wagenius’ mother — Minnesota native Alicia Roen — filled in the gaps.

I can see going after him if the shit has SSN's & Drivers Licenses or other things like that, or the phone records have public officials, politicians or federal judges, cops, FBI & so on, in them. But, I very much doubt they would be using those carriers for their phones or advertising who they are by listing that I'm an FBI agent. lol !
If they are just plain old phone records, no big deal, even if they are unlisted, I can get them without hacking into a damn thing.
Lets see these security people track down & arrest the real morons in China or Russia (or any other third world country) that hacks things like China did the other day with the US Treasury, that is more important than a damn phone company. You know for a fact that those countries hire the hackers who do this & then, act stupid, telling us they know nothing about it. They always lie like hell & get away with it. This is what gets these kids doing the same thing, its like playing a video game to them.
You can't stop stupidity by locking people up & spending thousands of dollars a year, feeding & housing them for years. You just keep filling up & building more prisons & hiring more guards. Sooner or later, half the country will be in jail & the other half will be guarding them. The USA has more criminals locked up than any country on earth. We used to bitch about Russia & China doing what we are now doing ourselves. To stop the REAL CRIMINALS, the MURDERERS & RAPISTS, why bother locking them up ? Do like we did in the 1800's & early 1900's & hang the MF'ers in the town square, at high noon, so other idiots get the picture & watch, while they dangle & dance at the end of a rope, pissing & shitting their pants. That will stop at least 99% of them from being the next one in line. lol ! China does it with a bullet to the head & sends the bill for it to their family members. Russia does it a bit different, they hide things & you don't know where they went, they seem to have disappeared. lol !

We won't know, because the jerk never bothered to post them on here, he was to interested in MONEY, which got him caught. Money will get you every time. If posted on line, they go nuts trying to stop it from being passed around & don't bother looking for who stole them, its more important to stop them from get out all over the world. This is why I check here everyday, in case something shows up I want & will disappear when they see it. lol !!
Like with Easy Vote, I handed them the link to find the files, but I did not post them. Then two idiots got them & tried selling the files, first on Raid, which were gone & the site shut down in 3 days, then the second one tried to sell them on Breached & it was shut down in 3 days, but came back online a few weeks later. BUT, you have never again seen those files posted anywhere, why is that ? They were from a Poll Book company who is run by REPUBLICANS in Georgia, who was helping Trump, the files were from Democratic counties. I could go on, but I won't.

How do I know, I researched those pieces of shit in Georgia, including their friends. lol !

Alison Nixon of Unit221B  pretty much explains it. You might remember her name from her involvement in identifying Waifu:

Quote:Allison Nixon, chief research officer at the New York-based cybersecurity firm Unit 221B, helped track down Kiberphant0m’s real life identity. Nixon was among several security researchers who faced harassment and specific threats of violence from Judische and his associates.

“Anonymously extorting the President and VP as a member of the military is a bad idea, but it’s an even worse idea to harass people who specialize in de-anonymizing cybercriminals,” Nixon told KrebsOnSecurity. She said the investigation into Kiberphant0m shows that law enforcement is getting better and faster at going after cybercriminals — especially those who are actually living in the United States.

“Between when we, and an anonymous colleague, found his opsec mistake on November 10th to his last Telegram activity on December 6, law enforcement set the speed record for the fastest turnaround time for an American federal cyber case that I have witnessed in my career,” she said.

Nixon asked to share a message for all the other Kiberphant0ms out there who think they can’t be found and arrested.

“I know that young people involved in cybercrime will read these articles,” Nixon said. “You need to stop doing stupid shit and get a lawyer. Law enforcement wants to put all of you in prison for a long time.”
