TBH, it's no ones war but Ukraines. We shouldn't have gotten involved in it, Ukraine was/is an extremely corrupt state full of criminals so if wouldn't make a difference if Russia took it over.

The excuse of "Russia will then have easir access to invade Europe" is utter BS, Russia would never attack any NATO country an we know it. So in the end the west got involved because of the USA, and the USA got involved because it has a lot of weapons in stock that need live testing and offloading, so this would be the perfect proxy war for it(All while making a shitload of future money by indebting the Ukrainians).

Looks like a bit of a stale mate now. Russia can't take Ukraine with the West's help.
Ukraine can't retake the Crimea when the West tells them not to attack past Russia's border (kind of like a no-tag zone when we played "It").

But Russia has taken additional land. Ukraine wants it back. Yay for wars in Europe!
