Hey, BreachForums I want to start using Telegram since i've heard that there is a lot of leaked content there, but i am a bit unsure about for a couple of reasons. first and obvious is that the creator got arrested so the whole anonimity that is supposed to come with telegram may be gone. second is that it requires a phone number to register and i don't really want to use my phone number for this kind of stuff. do you guys have any opsec advice about using telegram? i would appreciate the help.

I'm sure you're better off finding leaked content here than on Telegram?
Use sms-activate for a telegram phone number & if you're really that paranoid use telegram client in whonix (overkill).
You have nothing to worry about when using Telegram as long as you're not doing anything illegal, if you're simply just downloading databases & going about your day then I'm sure the feds won't come after you.
Could you imagine if the feds came after every single person who done something illegal on telegram? They'd be a serious jail overcrowding issue.
At most as of recent I've just noticed a couple telegram channels getting deleted, but of course you can also expect them to be gathering intelligence on persistent TAs. Don't forget it costs a certain amount of money and budgeting to start an investigation on a specific user or group. However if what you're doing is really malicious or absurd, then it's worth their money.
Take the time to read through Telegrams privacy policy to understand more about the platform if you really care that much, it really doesn't take that long & it's worth knowing that sort of stuff anyways.
So you've never used Telegram before or are you a previous user just concerned about opsec?

Anonymous it depends on your OPSEC not the platform. The Telegram keeps you IP and your Phone Number, if you only use for download files setup Telegram desktop on whonix then get one disposable number to register!

Sign up for Telegram with a fake number. If you want to be anonymous on WhatsApp and Telegram, you need to have a fake number.

I wouldn't post anything incriminating in a Telegram chat. But downloading leaks from various busy channels with thousands of subscribers is not likely to get you singled out and hunted down
Temp SMS services are handy for some things but I wouldn't trust it on anything important where someone else using that service could takeover your account using the same number/service. Burner phone with a temp Pay as you go sim is a better way. Either throw the sim away after or keep to top up every year to keep the number from being re-assigned
