once pressing on this well known button ->

I feel like it should either automatically get sorted by thread creation date and NOT latest post/reply, 

or also include the search filters -->  on either top or bottom of the page. 

I would like to suggest both to be quite fair. 
It should automatically be sorted by the creation date to give the newer posted threads a good chance of finding them, but also like I said adding the search filters is a better option as this gives the best of both worlds..
